Workshop Description:
Born into a Black Deaf family, Brandon “BL” Williams will discuss how systems of racism, sexism, classism, and audism have impacted multiple generations of his family-academically, economically, and socially- and how that has impacted his views of society. We will explore the intersectional reality of our communities and how we can do better to embrace multiple experiences by resisting the oppression we experience and perpetuate.
Brandon “BL” Williams is a light-skinned biracial Black Deaf man born in Dallas, Texas, and raised in Arkansas. He comes from a Black Deaf family on his father’s side. This experience, among many others, gave him an acute awareness of how various systems of oppression play a role in organizations, educational institutions, and within society as a whole.
